Alexandra Bommer, MA

Psychotherapist
480 N McClurg Ct, Ste 513, Chicago, IL
I view therapy as a collaborative process. Feeling heard, understood, and accepted all contribute to creating meaningful change. I work with individuals and couples who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, communication issues, poor self-esteem, relationship and sexual issues. I strive to create a warm, supportive and nonjudgmental environment with the goal of helping you open up about your innermost thoughts and feelings. Together we explore your current challenges in order to better understand destructive patterns. Beginning therapy can feel like a difficult step. But you do not have to work through everything on your own. Instead, I meet each client or couple where they are and work at a pace that feels comfortable while simultaneously moving toward your ultimate goal. With greater self-awareness, compassion and the right support you can move through difficult emotions and experiences to build a more fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. I tailor treatment to each client's needs and goals rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Your experiences dictate the focus of treatment. Thus, therapy may involve developing healthier coping skills, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, exploring past experiences, or gaining greater insight into yourself or your relationships. My goal is to help each individual or couple develop a deeper understanding of themselves while building practical tools that can support personal satisfaction.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session focuses on gathering a thorough history of the problems and past events that may have contributed. Sessions are 50 minutes long. Our office helps you with insurance information and billing.
