Alexandra Cote, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m Alex. I’m a white, queer, non-monogamous, genderqueer therapist who works with sensitive, anxious, over-thinkers. If you’ve found yourself thinking, “I know why I’m like this, but I can't seem to change," or if you’ve ever had someone tell you you just need to feel your feelings, and you inquire incredulously, “How??,” then experiential therapy might be a good fit for you. In experiential therapy, you will practice—in real time—learning how to tune into your emotions without feeling overwhelmed by them. I use mind-body methods such as Somatic Experiencing (SE), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) to help clients slow down and be present with their reactions. I work with many queer and neurodivergent people whose childhoods were difficult. I also work with parents who are finding that parenting is bringing up challenging things in themselves that they had been able to get by without addressing before. Before I was a therapist, I worked for 10 years advocating for children’s right to play. Helping young people access joyful imagination and movement, take risks, be creative, and access the absurd and in-the-moment world of play directly led to my interest in creative, in-the-moment, relational therapy work.
