Getting to know Alexi Gianopulos

“Your Story Matters” Being human is both very beautiful and can also be very difficult. Our bodies hold stories of great beauty and also great shame. Oftentimes, stories of pain, shame, and harm get minimized and not tended to. As a result, these stories are held in our bodies and can lead to anxiety, depression, loss of connection, anger, sadness, self-doubt, negative self-esteem, overwhelming emotions, and disorientation. If you can relate to this, you are not alone, and I am here for you. My name is Alexander Gianopulos (you can just call me Alexi). I'll admit that trusting another person with your story, especially the vulnerable parts, requires a lot of courage. One of the kindest ways to engage our stories is in the safety of human connection. As such, I genuinely seek to provide a confidential space where you feel safe, seen, heard, supported, fully accepted, and where your authentic self can shine through and flourish. I have experience helping individuals who are going through a variety of challenges, including family of origin issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, addictions, relationships, spirituality and faith, spiritual abuse, unwanted sexual behaviors, adult children from immigrant families, and Third Culture Kids. Having spent my formative years in multiple countries, I am mindful of how culture can impact your wellbeing and healing process. I currently hold an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wheaton College. It would be a privilege and an honor to come alongside you to hear your story, collaborate, and offer support during this season in your life's journey. In my free time, I enjoy playing the drums, cooking, going to the beach and nature walks, and traveling.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’ve been told that I’m warm, empathetic, and a good listener. I’ve also been told that I look younger than my actual age because I have a baby face lol. But in all honesty, I genuinely seek to provide a confidential space where you feel seen, heard, supported, fully accepted and where your authentic self can shine and flourish. I’m pretty laid back and I approach therapy like a conversation where we get to explore and engage your story, experiences, emotions and thoughts. I also love integrating psychology and faith in the therapeutic work if that is something you’re interested in doing. I’ll admit that trusting another person with your story, especially the vulnerable parts, requires a lot of courage. One of the most kind ways to engage our stories is in the safety of human connection.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions together are a spent just getting to know each other, hearing what’s on your heart and what better looks like. I believe in the resiliency of people which is why I have a hands off approach and allow the client to come up with their own solutions and goals.
