Getting to know Alexis Brown

Welcome to Stable Ground Counseling. I’m so glad you’re here. A little about me. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with about 9 years of working experience. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is to be authentic and genuine and let my clients be the guide in our work together as they are the experts on their own lives and I believe carry great wisdom. It is always my ultimate goal to create a space of absolute non-judgment so my clients can share freely and feel accepted.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first thing to know, is that I run my virtual practice through Headway, which is an online therapy portal. Once I get a Zoc Doc referral, you can expect an email from me with a link to my portal. That is where you can get all signed up and scheduled. The set up is pretty easy. But I'm happy to help if need be once we get in touch via that first email. A typical session of virtual therapy with me would be very collaborative. It is always my goal to create a warm and open setting. We will work on building rapport and setting up a plan that you feel will be most helpful for you. From there we can begin to take on things as they come up. Have you tried traditional talk therapy and are hoping to find something different? Along with virtual therapy, I also offer in-person equine assisted psychotherapy. Horses make for great partners in therapy. Their brains function much like ours when we’ve experienced trauma. As prey animals they must always be on alert and many of us may relate to that feeling. In partnering with a horse, we will step away from the traditional face to face type therapy and move around in a serene barn setting, working on building a connection with our equine partner. This allows you to examine the way you view attachment and connection to others. This type of therapy offers a somatic approach allowing us to re- connect with our bodies in a way we maybe never have. Sometimes we just need something a little different and I’m happy to offer just that. If you'd like to learn more, I'm happy to schedule a quick call to provide more details so you can determine if it's a good fit for you.
