Getting to know Alfonso Ferguson
Dr. Alfonso Ferguson is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and Florida, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. He holds a PhD in Counseling from Montclair State University, a Master's in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida. Dr. Ferguson uses his knowledge, experience, and research to provide culturally responsive counseling services that foster understanding, healing, and guidance, creating safer spaces for all.
His multicultural and social justice training allows him to develop personalized treatment plans using an intersectional framework that supports understanding of a client's unique identities, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and ability. This training also helps clients effectively identify factors contributing to psychological and community stressors.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Welcome to the first step in our transformative journey together. My process for engaging with new clients begins with an initial consultation phone call conducted by a compassionate member of the GoodWerk Counseling team. This call is an introduction to our services and the beginning of understanding your unique story. During this complimentary 15-minute consultation call, you’ll discuss our services and get answers to any of your questions to ensure you feel fully informed before starting your therapeutic journey.
Once you're ready to move forward, you'll dive deeper in a comprehensive 60-minute initial intake session with me. This session isn't just about meeting and getting to understand your background, challenges, and what brought you to seek counseling, it's also about building a connection to form a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, valued, and understood. Here, we'll begin our work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that is crafted to support and address your unique needs and goals.
In our recurring sessions, you'll find yourself in an empowering role, not just receiving care but actively engaging in self-discovery and growth. As we progress, you'll notice changes – not just in how you cope with challenges, but in how you view yourself and your place in the world.
