Hi, I am Alice Filmus, a Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed for 15 years. I believe everyone has something valuable to offer, and with unconditional empathy, compassion, and therapeutic guidance, a person's fullest, happiest potential can be achieved. My approach First and foremost, I ask what the client wants and what's the best fit for you. After assessment, we work together to figure out a path to improve your quality of life. I use Psychodynamic theory, Self-Psychology, Attachment theory, Solution-Focused, Brief Therapy, Object Relations, and CBT-generally an eclectic approach depending on the client's goals and desired outcomes. My focus I work with individuals experiencing relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma history, loss, or grief. I also support life transitions such as marriage, divorce, having a new baby, or career changes. Additionally, I enjoy working with students aspiring to enter the field. I appreciate working with people who have the courage for self-growth and reach out for help. My communication style I am very calm, a good listener, and focused on your needs. My goal is to build rapport and a strong therapeutic relationship founded on trust and unconditional support. I will ask for feedback to ensure you are comfortable and that therapy is helpful. Together, we will work toward your desired journey and outcome. My journey to mental healthcare Since as long as I can remember, I have found myself in the role of a helper. In school and in life, I was often a big sister, mediator, or peacemaker. Helping others brought me incredible joy, and I realized I offer something invaluable to better people's lives. Knowing this was my path, I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology and then went on to receive a Master's in Counseling from John F. Kennedy University.
