Alicia Richter, LPC Associate

Psychotherapist
TX
The provider is supervised by "Allison Hunter". I work with adults who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, often as a result of trauma, chronic stress, or major life changes. Some clients come to therapy feeling anxious or emotionally shut down, while others are trying to better understand themselves, their reactions, and what they need to feel grounded again. While I support clients with a wide range of concerns, much of my work centers on trauma and its impact on the nervous system, emotions, and sense of self. This can include experiences related to difficult relationships, abuse, or prolonged stress, but therapy is not limited to any single type of experience. Sessions are collaborative and move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, with room for honesty, curiosity, and compassion. My goal is to provide a steady, supportive space where clients feel heard and respected, and where healing can unfold over time without pressure or judgment.

Getting to know Alicia Richter

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you’ll find someone who is present, curious, and nonjudgmental. I prioritize creating a steady, supportive space where you can explore what matters most to you, especially when life feels heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. My work often centers on trauma, stress, and the ways past experiences continue to show up in your daily life, but I also support a wide range of emotional and relational concerns. I see therapy as a collaborative journey rather than a directive process—we move at a pace that feels manageable, ask thoughtful questions together, and give space to the whole truth of your experience without pressure to rush healing. A few things that might help you know me as a person: I’m a self-described nerd, I love spending time in nature, and I enjoy gaming (especially Minecraft and Destiny 2). I’m also fascinated by other cultures, which shapes how I value each person’s unique story and worldview. Whether we’re exploring difficult emotions, unpacking patterns, or simply talking about what brought you to therapy, I’ll be on your side—curious, steady, and fully present with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work usually begins with getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. Early sessions focus on building trust, clarifying your goals, and exploring what feels most important for you to talk about right now. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable. As therapy continues, we start to notice patterns, responses, and coping strategies that may have developed over time, especially in response to stress or trauma. Together, we explore what is helping, what may no longer be serving you, and what you want to strengthen or change. I ask thoughtful questions, reflect what I notice, and make space for both insight and emotion. Throughout the process, sessions are collaborative and flexible. Some days we focus on deeper emotional work, and other days we slow things down to ground, regulate, or simply check in. Therapy is not about fixing you, but about supporting understanding, resilience, and growth in a way that feels respectful and sustainable.

More information on payments and coverage

Novus Psychotherapy & Counseling Center operates primarily as an out-of-network and self-pay practice. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept major credit and debit cards and use a secure, HIPAA-compliant system for all billing and documentation. While we do not bill most insurance plans directly, we are happy to provide a superbill upon request that clients may submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on their individual out-of-network benefits. Coverage and reimbursement amounts are determined by your insurance provider, and we encourage clients to contact their insurer directly to understand their benefits. Some clinicians at Novus may accept Aetna, depending on provider availability. Please check your clinician’s profile or contact our office to confirm current insurance participation. If you have questions about fees, coverage, or payment options, our team is glad to help clarify what to expect before your first appointment so there are no surprises.
