Getting to know Alison Ames

Hello! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families through Telehealth only. My clinical background includes work in hospitals, urgent care centers, outpatient community mental health, emergency crisis response teams, and school settings. What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where they feel safe to openly explore and process their emotions. I strive to create a supportive space that fosters trust, self-awareness, and meaningful growth. My clinical approach is integrative; I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities and tailor them to meet each client's individual needs, goals, and lived experiences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me is warm, collaborative, and client-driven. As a person-centered therapist, I prioritize creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel genuinely heard and understood. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and I’m here to support and empower you as you explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. While the foundation of our work is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, I also integrate a goal-oriented approach to help you move toward meaningful change. Early in our work, we’ll identify the goals that matter most to you—whether it’s improving relationships, managing anxiety, building confidence, or working through a difficult life transition—and revisit them throughout our sessions to ensure we’re aligned and making progress. Sessions often involve open conversation, reflection, and gentle guidance to help you gain clarity, deepen insight, and strengthen your sense of agency. We’ll regularly check in on what’s working, what’s not, and how we can adjust our work together to best support your growth and well-being.
