Getting to know Allison Fosheim

I am a licensed mental health counselor with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am also a trained DBT therapist and certified personality disorder treatment provider. I don’t believe in lost causes; I believe we all have inherent worth and are capable of growth. My goal is to help people make lasting, positive changes in their lives while also supporting them in accepting what cannot be changed.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide an evidence-based treatment called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a more intensive therapy for individuals who struggle with emotional and behavioral control. It is comprised of a weekly individual session and weekly skills training. It is a more structured therapy and a full course lasts around 6 months.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The overarching goal of DBT is to create a life worth living. In individual sessions, we track problem behaviors and focus on how to be more effective in your life. We will uncover barriers and obstacles to progress as we work toward your personal goals. The skills training component consists of a weekly 30-minute skills video and homework focusing on mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
