Allison Spinner, LMHC

Allison Spinner, LMHC

Psychotherapist
79 main street, Port Washington, NY
I started this practice in the wake of Covid, recognizing the need for a safe space that allowed people to process, analyze, and recalibrate. As far as my approach to counseling, I have always viewed therapy as a verb. I value collaboration and participation in my sessions, and I always encourage my clients to take a leading role in shaping the goals and intended outcomes of our work together. Born and raised on Long Island with a large and diverse family, I know the importance of feeling seen and heard in a counseling session, and I am intentional about fostering trust and honesty in every client interaction. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Old Westbury and have received specialized training in trauma, CBT, psychoanalytic approaches, motivational interviewing, and solution-based techniques. I specialize in anxiety and depression, addiction, eating disorders, couples therapy, professional challenges, and family therapy. I have experience working with children and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Therapy is never a one-size-fits-all model, and I look forward to working with you to figure out which approaches and techniques work best for you, your life, and your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We take great care to integrate the family into therapy as needed, with interventions that keep the family as a whole in mind. We move beyond “labels” to help your child build skills and behaviors that will serve them well. And though this process can be difficult, we invite laughter and full hearts into our work. For your child, your family and you, child therapy at the CWC can be a positive, affirming step, with something new to be learned at every session. ?
