Getting to know Allison Sugarman
I specialize in working with children and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, life transitions, and the pressure to figure out who they are and where they’re going. I received my MSW from Columbia University with a specialization in Advanced Clinical Practice.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and person-centered. I integrate CBT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy to help clients better understand themselves while developing practical tools to navigate what they’re experiencing. I believe therapy is not just about managing symptoms, but also about exploring the underlying patterns and past experiences that shape how we relate to ourselves and others.
I strive to create a space where clients feel genuinely heard, supported, and able to show up as themselves. I also believe there is room for humor in therapy. When appropriate, I use humor to build connection, bring lightness to difficult moments, and help make the therapeutic process feel a little more human. Together, we can build greater confidence, emotional awareness, grounding, and connection while working toward a life that feels more aligned with who you are.

Allison is a provider that not only made me feel seen, comfortable, and understood from day one but also made therapy something I enjoyed and looked forward to. The mundaneness of therapy was something of the past with her and it made seeking help and being open with my biggest insecurities and past troubles something I felt open doing. She gave me the tools and self reflection to make drastic changes over our time so far together and is a care provider I will continue work with.
