Getting to know Alyssa Salvesen

Ever since I was introduced to the mental health field, I knew that becoming a therapist was part of my life’s mission to help others improve their well-being and quality of life. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Capella University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support clients effectively. I have experience working with clients from all walks of life, each facing unique struggles and challenges. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. These experiences have given me the opportunity to identify gaps in services and develop the skills necessary to meet clients’ needs. In my sessions, I meet clients where they are and offer guidance to help them reach where they need and want to be. I focus both on their current strengths and on any distress that may be disturbing their sense of well-being. Together, we work to find healing and effective coping techniques they can use outside of sessions. I take pride in forming sincere and positive relationships with my clients while inspiring them to be brave enough to take risks and live their lives fully. As a favorite quote of mine says, “You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” After working with me, clients have expressed feeling self-empowered and more confident. Children I have worked with report doing better both socially and academically. When not doing therapy, I love spending time with my friends, family, and pets. I have three dogs, a fish, and a bearded dragon. I have a passion for fitness, personal training, and meditation. When I need a moment for myself, I find comfort and peace in being near the ocean.
