Getting to know Amanda Axelrod

Amanda Axelrod is a LSW and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Institute for Personal Growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with both children and adults. While these groups might seem quite different, there are meaningful parallels. Every one of us needs connection and to feel seen by others. Adults often need a sense of acceptance as they begin to reshape their life narrative—making sense of early experiences and healing from longstanding patterns. Similarly, children thrive when they feel accepted, and as that sense of safety grows, they naturally begin to show up in new and healthier ways. I am experienced in working with families facing a wide range of challenges, including children who are acting out or struggling with anxiety, aggression, attachment injuries and other traumas, OCD, or neurodivergence. I tailor my approach to each family’s unique needs, combining play therapy, talk therapy, and family-centered strategies. My work with adults focuses around helping clients navigate life transitions, process complex emotions, heal from trauma, and cultivate self-awareness and growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is attachment-based, trauma-focused, and relational. I strive to create a warm, safe and supportive environment where each person feels heard and valued. I draw on Attachment Theory and Polyvagal Theory to support connection, co-regulation, and deeper understanding between parents/children and with oneself. By strengthening the foundation of trust and safety in the parent-child relationship, we can effectively address challenges at home and in school. This approach not only fosters more harmony within the family and classroom, but also supports the development of meaningful relationships—like friendships and sibling bonds.
