Getting to know Amanda Backenstoes

Now accepting in-person clients starting in January. Hello. Congratulations on taking the first step in your mental wellness journey. I am so thankful that you are here. Let me share a little bit about myself. I have over twenty years of experience in the mental health field. In 2004 I earned my bachelor's degree in from Shippensburg University. I went on to earn my master's in social work at Edinboro University. Since then, I have earned my Clinical Social Work license and have been working as an outpatient therapist. I work with children, adolescents, and adults and focus on anxiety, depression, and healing from trauma. My focus is on meeting you wherever you are in your journey. I am client-focused, meaning you are in charge of your treatment. We will work together to identify treatment goals and develop a plan focused on you as an individual. Whether it's working on relationships, symptoms of anxiety and depression, or resolving past trauma, we will work as a team. I recognize that starting therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming. You've already taken the first step which is often the most challenging. I look forward to working with you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience supporting adults, couples, children, and adolescents. My work focuses on helping individuals navigate depression, anxiety, and trauma while building resilience, insight, and meaningful change. I believe in a holistic approach to wellness that honors the connection between mind, body, and emotions. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, and I am committed to meeting you where you are. I recognize that you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as a collaborative guide. I utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. These methods allow us to address current challenges, develop effective coping skills, and work toward practica, achievable goals-while remaining grounded in compassion and curiosity. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgemental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your relationship, or your child, I am honored to be a part of your journey toward healing and growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma. In our initial sessions, we will explore the issues at hand and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a gradual improvement in symptoms within the first month with sustained improvement thereafter.

Amanda is an amazing therapist!!! She is down-to-earth, focuses in on my issues, and provides actionable coping mechanisms that have changed my life. We worked through trauma, family issues, relationship building, and grief. She is relatable and reliable. My life is better because of the work we’ve done together!!!!
Amanda is the best therapist that I've ever had! I've never been so comfortable with any other. I can tell her anything, honestly. She's down to Earth, really listens, and she remembers details about my life that make me feel like I'm talking to a friend that I trust. She's compassionate but also won't coddle you. She'll do everything she can in order to give you the best chance at successfully healing. I'll always recommend her 10/10 every time!
It is so important to feel comfortable and connect with a therapist, and I connected with Amanda right away. She is approachable and real with her advice and assistance. I highly recommend Amanda for anyone that has concerns they wish to address.
Amanda is a life saver. I came to see her looking for help managing my trauma and PTSD. With her help and guidance, I have regained control of my life. I was in a dangerously bad place when I first met Amanda. Now, I've never been happier. I deeply recommend seeing Amanda to help you make sense of your trauma. If you're willing to trust her, she'll take you wherever you want to go.
