“I have been working with Amanda for a few months now and I have nothing but great things to say about her. I’ve seen many therapists but this is the first one with whom my sessions do not feel clinical. She has a way of making you feel comfortable and that she really cares, which I think she does.”

Getting to know Amanda Clark

With a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the prestigious Northwestern University in Illinois, I am a creative, results-oriented, and passionate therapist specializing in working with children aged 6 and up, teens, adults, and families. Does your child struggle with self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, or behavioral problems? I help children facing big challenges learn to express themselves and find solutions that help them feel better and make healthier choices. I am a certified Play Therapist and Certified Trauma Professional (CTP), which means I have extra training and certification in working with children 6 years old and above. Are you a parent struggling with a teen who has anxiety, depression, or behavior problems? Or are you yourself feeling overwhelmed by life and needing additional support? Perhaps you and your partner are having difficulty connecting and communicating in productive ways and are beginning to question whether your relationship can survive. Together, we can work to solve these issues and many more, finding a path to the joy and life you seek. My unique experiences working with teenagers in treatment, as well as couples and families in outpatient settings, have given me valuable skills and tools to help a wide variety of people. You will learn skills to become aware of triggers, handle difficult emotions, and communicate more effectively with those you care about. My training and experience have equipped me to work with some of the most difficult and challenging situations. I am dedicated to helping your child reach their full potential and thrive!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a counselor who helps children, teenagers and adults recover from obstacles in their life and regain confidence, connection, and stability at home, school, work and family. Life happens to everyone, and then the question becomes, where do I go from here? How do I move on? Or situations and events have been avoided, telling yourself you are okay. Now realizing it is not okay and need help, guidance, and someone to talk to. Let’s talk; I am here to listen, guide, and show you; you already have the answers. You have the power to make changes within yourself. My ideal client is someone who is at a crossroads and ready to explore and look for change. I enjoy working with clients to help them recognize their strengths. I am a compassionate clinician that believes in self-determination and autonomy. I take a client-centered approach guiding clients to show self-compassion and empowering them for change. I assist clients in identifying their life stressors, reflecting on self-awareness, and enhancing healthy coping skills. I am trained in various modalities, MI, CBT, sand tray, and EMDR, to work through the challenging areas of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and more.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Due to the modalities I work with and my own personal style, I am active in sessions. The level of how active of course changes depending on the topics you are bringing up and how you are feeling on the day but, more often than not, sessions will feel more like a conversation. I will be checking in with things you share with me and challenging thoughts where appropriate. I also use psychoeducation as part of my practice.
