Getting to know Amanda Del Aguila

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and completed my master’s program in Clinical Psychology at Benedictine University in 2023. I have worked over the past eight years in various mental health settings working with a variety of populations, including adolescents/teens, adults, families and couples. Throughout it all, I have found that the therapeutic relationship I cultivate with my clients has led to deep, meaningful and lasting change, and I strive to create a genuine relationship with those who allow me to walk beside them on their healing journey. My priority as a therapist is to provide a safe, secure, and nonjudgmental space to provide my clients with the opportunity to explore and develop in a manner that feels right for them. I strive to help build on my client’s strengths and focus on empowering aspects of who they are as a human being, acknowledging that therapy isn’t to “fix” people, but to assist in helping them live a more authentic life for themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My primary work has been in areas such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, trauma, and grief and loss. I identify as a neurodivergent and queer-affirming therapist. I mainly implement holistic, multicultural, and client-centered techniques, to ensure that my clients feel heard, validated, and seen. I am EMDR trained as well. I also work to customize and tailor treatment to my client’s needs and goals as I envision therapy to be a collaborative process, where my clients are encouraged to come as they are, and tell me where they would like to go.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process includes meeting my clients where they are at, and encouraging them to collaborate to create a treatment plan that works for them to work towards their therapeutic goals. I encourage open communication, feedback, and transparency in the therapeutic process as my goal is to ensure that my clients and I are working together as a team.
