Getting to know Amanda Rhiannon Nixon
I'm accepting new clients from populations such as current/retired first responders, active military/combat veterans and emergency/disaster response leadership and staff. I, Amanda, offer more than a decade of trauma and disaster mental health experience, catering to survivors and communities affected by major crises like the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, Surfside Condo Collapse, and the Typhoon Mawar in Guam.
Having specialized in supporting high-stress professionals, first responders, veterans and military personnel, I base my practice on trauma-informed care and interventions proven to foster resilience and recovery. My roles have included leading disaster teams and response units like the Volusia/Flagler Crisis Response Team, the American Red Cross, and the Central Florida Disaster Medical Coalition.
Alongside this, I'm dedicated to education and mentorship. I’ve served as a supervisor for students in programs such as physician assistant, social work, and mental health, across many universities including Nova Southeastern and Florida State. I also act as a qualified supervisor for licensure-seeking social workers.
I posses an MSW from the University of Central Florida and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Qualified Supervisor in Florida, currently finishing a PhD in Psychology, specializing in trauma and disaster relief. My training includes EMDR, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Stress First Aid, and various crisis response, suicide prevention, and military support techniques.
