What should a new client know about working with you?

I operate from an eclectic perspective as each client has their own unique experiences. My primary modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I also utilize Person-Centered, Mindfulness, and Strength Based models with clients regularly. I offer trauma-informed and somatic therapy and am EMDR trained. I have many years of experience with clients who have had contact with the criminal justice system, are active/retired military, and those with co-occurring disorders. My approach when it comes to therapy always begins with creating a therapeutic relationship that is based on trust and respect. As your counselor, you can always expect me to operate from a place of honesty and transparency. If you're coming to counseling, there is something important that you want to address or accomplish. Your time is valuable, and you deserve to feel confident in your counseling journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before we meet for the first time, I'll send you some paperwork to complete and I'll review it ahead of time. Our first session is the formal intake and assessment. This allows me to better understand the concerns you're experiencing and what life has looked like for you (past and present). This allows me to give an appropriate diagnosis for treatment. The second session is where we create some treatment goals so we have a proverbial road map as we embark on the therapeutic journey. I utilize the SMART goal method to help ensure our goals are attainable - we don't do unrealistic, lofty goals here! :) All sessions are 50 minutes and are typically the same day/time each week. I start meeting with clients weekly and then we reassess where things are somewhere between 4-6 months into the process to see if we want to continue with weekly or if it would be appropriate to move to biweekly.
