What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is predominantly humanistic, but I integrate all major theoretical orientations to meet the unique needs of each client. I use evidence-based approaches (empirical), combined with my expert knowledge and skills, as well as insights from other practitioners and scholars (rational), to support clients in achieving their own desires and hopes for mental and emotional well-being (humanistic). I also work in ways that honor and respect who they are within their relationships, communities, and society as a whole (collectivist). This integrative approach ensures that therapy is both personalized and grounded in the best available practices, fostering growth and healing on an individual and relational level.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to communicate in a way that is straightforward, clear, and adaptable to each client’s unique communication style and preferences, always prioritizing their safety, privacy, and consent. My approach is grounded in acceptance of their perspectives and experiences, validation of their emotions and needs, and deep respect for their abilities and potential. I ensure that our conversations focus on what matters most to them, creating a collaborative and empowering space for growth and healing. I create a welcoming, down-to-earth environment where clients feel safe, supported, and respected as their full selves. My space is intentionally private, visually calming, and equipped with cozy seating for a variety of body sizes and needs—along with essentials like snacks and water. I love learning from my clients, helping them explore profound answers to complex questions, and sharing my own knowledge in a way that feels collaborative and empowering. Swear words are welcome and I never suggest anything I wouldn’t practice in my own life or relationships. In a first session, my primary goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where clients feel seen, heard, and comfortable as we begin our work together. I focus on building rapport and getting to know the client—their story, what brought them to therapy, and how I might best support them. I also help clients get to know me and my approach so they can determine if I’m the right fit for their needs. I take time to answer any questions, explain policies, and provide an overview of what to expect in our sessions moving forward. My hope is that clients leave the first session feeling more grounded, hopeful, and confident that I can help them.
