Amanda Vandivier, LMSW

Psychotherapist
MD
Mandy is an eclectic practitioner, meaning she uses humor, a whole bunch of theoretical approaches, and a bit of caffeine-fueled optimism in her treatment approach. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University and a Master's in Social Work from Fordham University, along with other degrees, because she loves to keep learning and aims to fully understand how humans function mentally and how we can all function better! Mandy is also a published researcher in the addictions field, and if you ever want to know more about it, be prepared-she will happily talk your ears off. Mandy's focus is generalist, working with a wide variety of issues including (but not limited to) ADHD, addiction, anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, depression, grief, panic disorders, self-esteem issues, schizophrenia, and trauma. These are all challenges she has experienced personally or through family and friends, giving her more than just “book learning” on these topics. She uses the treatment approach that fits her clients best, which can include forms of CBT (DBT, REBT, ACT), parts work and psychoanalytic approaches, somatic methods, existentialism, person-centered focus, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and trauma-informed therapy. And, as mentioned before, humor and definitely a dose of optimism! Mandy identifies as Christian and is LGBTQ+ friendly-two identities she sees as not mutually exclusive. She believes God's love is for all and can take many forms but does not impose her beliefs on clients. She works hard to eliminate stigma of any kind, focusing on normalizing clients' experiences and empowering them to address what they want to work on and how to meet those goals. Mandy's goal for her clients is to leave every session feeling a little better, a little lighter, and hopefully a little happier.
