Ambresha Wilder

Psychotherapist
TX
Do you ever feel like your mind just won’t turn off—replaying conversations, worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet, and finding it impossible to relax? Many of the people I work with experience these same struggles. They often share that they feel exhausted, disconnected, and like their lives lack meaning as they work tirelessly to keep it together on the outside. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can quietly weave their way into our lives and, if left unchecked, can take control and lead us into a downward spiral. Let me help you lighten the weight of these burdens and begin healing together. I use a person-centered, empathic, and warm approach to identifying root problems, learning to practice self-compassion, and coping skills to navigate life stressors.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with clients who struggle with anxiety/depression, trauma, and difficulty regulating emotions. I do so by providing a supportive, warm, and empathetic relationship from start to finish, and encourage my clients to learn how to provide the same warmth and empathy to themselves when navigating stressors and mental health illnesses they may experience I am a very open and direct person. I use soft start-ups combined with assertive communication when interacting with clients.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a Black, female veteran, I have firsthand knowledge of the struggles many of us face. It was those experiences that called me to social work and to ultimately become a therapist. I help clients achieve their goals by being an accountability partner and encourager. I also assist clients in developing goals that are realistic but also challenging to ensure behavioral change is achieved to reach goals and alleviate emotions or stressors. I start with introducing myself, giving background on experience, education, and important sociocultural dynamics that are a part of who I am as a person but also a therapist. I also allow clients to share details about themselves to establish rapport. During the first session, an initial assessment is completed, which allows me to gather other pertinent information about the therapeutic relationship.
