Getting to know Amy McClellan

I am a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Barry University and a background in mental health counseling, trauma-informed care, and emotional wellness. I have been practicing with Holistic Minds Collective since 2021, supporting adults through anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and trauma-related experiences. My approach is holistic, compassionate, and collaborative. I strive to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore both present-day challenges and the deeper experiences that may be contributing to them. I believe therapy should be individualized, and I work closely with each client to identify approaches, tools, and goals that best support their unique needs and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and I value creating a space where clients feel comfortable, accepted, and free from judgment. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, collaboration, and authenticity. When working with me, clients can expect a balance of emotional support, curiosity, practical tools, and deeper exploration. I take time to understand not only what is happening currently in your life, but also the experiences, relationships, and patterns that may be influencing how you feel, respond, and navigate challenges today. I believe healing is not linear, and there is no “right” way to move through the process. Together, we will explore what works best for you specifically, while honoring your pace, readiness, and individual needs. I aim to help clients increase self-understanding, improve emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the beginning of therapy, I focus on getting to know you as a whole person — your current concerns, life experiences, relationships, strengths, and goals. Early sessions are centered around building safety, trust, and understanding while identifying what feels most important for you to focus on. As therapy progresses, we work collaboratively to explore patterns, emotional responses, and underlying experiences that may be connected to present-day struggles. I integrate practical coping strategies and emotional skill-building while also helping clients deepen insight into themselves and their experiences. Throughout the process, I consistently adapt therapy to fit the individual rather than relying on a standardized approach. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions and past experiences, while others may focus on problem-solving, boundaries, communication, self-care, or developing healthier coping mechanisms. My role is to support and partner with clients in a way that feels compassionate, empowering, and aligned with their unique needs and goals.
