Getting to know Amy Scott

Hi, I'm Amy! I am a licensed professional counselor in Maryland with over 25 years of clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Towson University and my Bachelor’s degree from McDaniel College. I have worked with various populations across the age span, treating individuals with anxiety, depression, and other difficulties. My career has been focused on helping others reach their full potential in a supportive setting. Life is filled with many unplanned challenges, and my goal as a therapist is to help individuals improve coping skills and focus on solutions in an empathetic environment. My experience includes providing cognitive behavioral therapy and other eclectic techniques, tailoring treatment to an individual’s needs and what may work best. I am skilled in helping individuals cope successfully with major life transitions so they can continue to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to care is collaborative, individualized, supportive and solution-focused. I believe in being an active listener, helping an individual to feel heard and helping motivate others to make even small changes holistically to improve quality of life. I build a trusting relationship so that an individual is able to feel comfortable and open to share more about their challenges, thoughts, feelings and goals. I focus primarily on improving coping skills, acceptance and making small changes that can facilitate larger outcomes in time and greater success.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the initial session, we will take the time to get to know each other and learn more about why you are seeking therapy at this time. At your own comfort level, you are free to share anything that you may wish so we can learn more about your goals in the therapy process and what may be on your mind. I work to answer any questions you may have about this process so you can set your mind at ease and lessen any anxiety you may have related to seeking help. Consider the first consult as an easy way with no pressure to get to know each other, learn more about your struggles, and discover what I can do to help you become more satisfied and at peace in your life.
