Getting to know Amy York

Hi there, I'm Amy! My name is Amy York, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving all of California via telehealth. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. I work with adults from diverse populations, specializing in LGBTQ+, women's mental health issues, depression, and anxiety, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. My approach My approach to therapy is to provide individualized care based on each client's needs. I use a systems theory framework that considers how various factors influence behavior and well-being within a system. Additionally, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is proven effective for treating concerns such as anger issues, anxious and depressive symptoms, and relationship challenges. My focus I work primarily with adult clients struggling with depressive or anxious symptoms, life transition difficulties, home and work stress, and relationship issues. I provide gender-affirming care and support clients who are navigating their identity or facing adversity related to their LGBTQ+ identity. My communication style It's important to me that my clients feel comfortable and heard. I offer a non-judgmental, supportive environment where you can share your story openly. Past clients have often told me I'm easy to talk with and that our sessions feel like productive conversations. I love to laugh with my clients and have been known to cry with them, too. My journey to mental healthcare My passion for helping people began as I witnessed family and friends struggle with difficult life situations. For the past 29 years, I have dedicated my life to social work. Early in my career, I worked with pregnant teens, undocumented farm workers, children with mental health issues, and within the criminal justice system. Each experience has deepened my understanding and shaped the lessons I bring to my work with clients today.
