Psychotherapist

Hi! I’m Andi Goundry, a child therapist and the owner of Mindful Me: Child & EMDR Therapy. I work with children and teens ages 4–17, and I’m passionate about helping young clients feel comfortable, understood, and genuinely engaged in the therapy process. I know that not every child connects with traditional talk therapy, so I use creative, child-centered approaches tailored to each child’s personality, interests, and needs. Depending on the client, that may include games, art, crafts, movement, interactive activities, and playful tools that help therapy feel more natural and approachable. My goal is to make therapy fit your child, rather than expecting your child to fit a style that doesn’t feel right for them. I have worked with many families who came in feeling discouraged because their child had not responded well to therapy before or was hesitant to participate. One of the most meaningful parts of my work is seeing those same children begin to feel safe, open up, and even enjoy coming to sessions. I offer EMDR in developmentally appropriate, child-friendly ways to help children process difficult experiences, big feelings, anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm. I also offer Minecraft Therapy for clients who may connect better through that format, especially when building trust through more traditional methods feels hard at first. I value working closely with families and understanding the larger family dynamics that may be impacting a child’s well-being. I believe meaningful progress happens when children feel supported and caregivers feel included too. If your child is struggling, I’d be honored to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is meant to feel warm, supportive, and approachable for both children and caregivers. I know that starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially for kids, so I focus first on helping each child feel comfortable, safe, and understood. I take time to get to know who they are, what they enjoy, and how they naturally communicate so therapy can feel like a good fit for them. My style is child-centered, engaging, and flexible. I often use creative approaches beyond traditional talk therapy, such as games, art, crafts, movement, interactive activities, and other hands-on tools that help children open up in ways that feel natural. I want therapy to meet your child where they are, rather than expecting them to adapt to a style that may not work for them. I also work collaboratively with parents and caregivers, because children tend to make the most meaningful progress when the adults in their lives feel supported too. I value open communication and like to help families better understand what may be underneath a child’s behaviors, emotions, or struggles. My approach may include EMDR, CBT, play-based strategies, and other developmentally appropriate interventions based on your child’s needs. Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, behavior changes, stress, or difficult experiences, my goal is to make therapy feel meaningful, manageable, and genuinely helpful. That first step can be hard, but I strive to make the process feel welcoming and encouraging from the start.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know both the child and the family so I can understand what is bringing them in, what concerns are coming up, and what strengths they already have. Early sessions often include gathering background information, exploring patterns at home, school, and in relationships, and beginning to build trust with the child at a pace that feels comfortable for them. From there, sessions are tailored to the child’s age, personality, and needs. For some children, that may look like talking more directly. For others, it may involve games, creative activities, movement, art, or other interactive approaches that help them express themselves in a way that feels natural. My goal is to make therapy approachable and engaging while still being purposeful and clinically meaningful. As therapy continues, I help children build insight, practice coping skills, process difficult emotions or experiences, and work toward the goals we identify together. Depending on the child’s needs, I may incorporate approaches such as EMDR, CBT, play-based interventions, or other child-friendly strategies. I also believe parent and caregiver involvement is an important part of the process. I regularly collaborate with caregivers to provide support, share themes or recommendations when appropriate, and help strengthen the child’s progress outside of session. Every child is different, so I aim to create a process that feels supportive, flexible, and individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.
