What should a new client know about working with you?

I started down the path to becoming a psychologist because I liked theater. I wanted to better understand the human experience, and I thought psychology would help me meet that goal. I then fell in love with the field. Once in graduate school, I trained in a variety of settings, including private practice, a residential unit, on an inpatient acute psych ward, and with Veterans in VA. I've worked with teenagers to adults in their 90s. You'll identify the goals you would like to achieve in therapy, and then we create a plan together of how to achieve those goals. I bring my knowledge and experience to the table while you bring your lived experiences, which are vital to meeting your goals. Goals are likely to change over the course of therapy, and that is to be expected. It can be scary but also exciting to see change occur over time. The first session focuses on getting a general, holistic idea of who you are, what has happened in your life, and what is going on now. It can be pretty different from a typical session as we cover a lot of different topics. In a typical session, you may want to only focus on one area or more areas of discussion. It is normal to feel anxious or uncertain before that first appointment. Please remember, we're a team in this. I'll walk with you through the whole thing.
