Andrew Iskandar, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been practicing therapy for over ten years. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, social anxiety, motivation, substance use, and schizophrenia. In the past I have worked with a variety of populations, ranging from individuals transitioning out of homelessness, to adults on the autism spectrum, to children with developmental disabilities. In recent years, I have primarily focused my practice on working with adult and college aged individuals. I have completed many trainings and courses covering different theoretical orientations and diagnoses; I find myself particularly drawn to ACT, Internal Family Systems, and short term psychodynamic therapies. I find therapy to be a deeply enriching experience and feel grateful that others let me into their inner worlds to help them better understand themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I would like to help you find a way to become unstuck. Together we can build a safe and connected space, where we can better look inside and find what keeps you fixed in one place, work to understand why it persists, and develop ways to free yourself.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that positive change comes from better understanding the internal processes that hold us back from being the people we want to be and taking steps to change how we hold those processes inside of ourselves. In our work together, we will develop a safe, connected space to better understand those processes, how they came to be, and why they remain. At the start of therapy, we will work to set concrete goals and define what change you would like to see in yourself and in your life. Throughout our time together, we will explore, better understand and process those aspects of self that hold you back, and develop strategies for you to practice outside of therapy to bring about change. Ultimately, we will look back at the changes you have seen, both inside yourself and in your life. At this point, some choose to continue the work by finding a new goal, while others choose to end their treatment.
