Getting to know Andrew Listvinsky

Hi, I'm Andrew (he/him/his) and I am a LCSW. I currently work out of the Clairemont (central San Diego) office and see clients in-person and through telehealth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy working with people struggling with trauma, major life changes, and those trying to find out who they are. I have experience working with Veterans, those struggling with addiction, and family/friends who find themselves as caregivers for another. Whatever you're struggling with, I have found that every client has something beautiful and exciting to discover within them. When providing therapy, I believe strongly in individualizing care. I utilize a variety of therapy models including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, client centered therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, attachment theory, and trauma informed care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is a collaborative process that does not have a "one size fits all" approach. For some, a firm guiding hand creates safety and a sense of direction. For others, the opportunity to take the reigns opens up new possibilities. Therapy involves ongoing revaluation of what is helpful. I encourage my clients to give feedback and not be afraid to tell me when something isn't working. Starting therapy can be anxiety inducing, which is why I am a firm believer in transparency. I encourage questions and feedback at all times. Early on I will focus on asking you questions that help me understand what brought you to therapy and the background you bring with you. When I have an idea of how I might best help you, I will give you my thoughts and ask you to share yours. From there, therapy sessions may be more focused on practicing skills, exploring through discussion and reflection, or something else entirely.
