Andrew Newhouse, LMFT

Psychotherapist
SC
My name is Andrew Newhouse, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) currently based in Hawaii, working with clients in Hawaii, Florida, and South Carolina via telehealth. I work with adolescents and adults, specializing in anxiety, stress, depression, addiction, and anger issues, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused techniques. I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from California State University, Bakersfield, which provided a strong foundation for my clinical work and deepened my understanding of mental health. My approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with. I generally use CBT and solution-focused techniques because these approaches help me quickly build rapport, develop strategies to address various issues, and collaborate with clients to create a plan for growth. In my experience, this approach works well for adolescents and adults of various ages. Common concerns clients bring to me include anxiety, job stress, social pressures, anger management, parenting and child behavior issues, and relationship and marriage challenges. I help clients find a clear path forward by building skills and developing tools to navigate these difficulties. My communication style is calm, non-judgmental, and personable. I focus on listening to understand rather than listening to respond, ensuring I fully grasp what my clients are sharing. My journey to mental healthcare began while attending my local community college. Unsure of my path, my mother suggested I try a psychology course, which I immediately loved. However, a tragic event became the true catalyst for my decision to become a therapist: my mother died unexpectedly when I was 17, and I began seeing a therapist to cope with my grief. This experience inspired me to help others in similar ways, setting me on the path to becoming a therapist.
