Getting to know Andrew Ross

My approach to professional counseling and growth is holistic and strengths-based. I draw on leading-edge interventions to help people break free from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, addictions, and more. I am skilled at helping resource people with skills to regain healthy control of their lives. I also know how to permanently update old beliefs and process old memories, which often results in new levels of peace, clarity, and calmness. I prefer a strengths-based, resilience-minded, skills-building, collaborative approach to the work of emotional growth and healing. My training as a pastoral counselor, along with my clinical internship at the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being, has equipped me to work with people who want to address spiritual concerns and questions. While my own background is in Christian spirituality, I welcome clients of any faith background and am glad to accompany you on your journey. I have significant cross-cultural experience from growing up in rural villages in Kenya, Africa, and studying during college in Costa Rica. I am proficient in Spanish and relate naturally and warmly to people of any culture or background. I enjoy soccer, Tolkien, friendships, and being outside, especially roaming in the wilderness far from the concrete and noise of the city.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have experience working with people struggling with anxiety, PTSD, depression, addictions, career concerns, relational challenges, bipolar, and more. My primary focus is adult individuals. I also offer workshops on a range of topics related to our emotional, relational, and spiritual health. My clients regularly report movement toward more abundant, authentic, and joy-filled lives. Areas of self-criticism often move in the direction of curiosity and self compassion. Relationships are clarified and self defeating patterns of thought and action often shift for the better. I find satisfaction in helping clients discover their own ability to love themselves, make wise decisions, heal themselves, and build up those around them.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I draw on cutting edge interventions including EMDR, CBT, IFS, Mindfulness, and EFT (tapping) as well as attuned, empathic conversation to help people regulate their emotional state, learn new skills, develop effective strategies, and resolve old blockages. I incorporate visualization, memory reconsolidation, daily practices, assessments, feedback, and ongoing collaboration. I've consolidated over a decade of clinical experience and study of evidence based models into a 3 phase plan that is trauma informed and strengths based to help adults of all ages to: 1. Stabilize, 2. Resolve the root causes of symptoms, and 3. Expand healthy control over their lives. Within this framework I integrate various therapeutic models, careful listening, and a strong therapeutic alliance to help clients achieve life transforming skills, growth, and healing.
