Getting to know Andrew Unrue

Hi there; I’m Andrew. I believe that we all long for connection—and that we’re never done growing into who we are meant to be. Life is full of change, and therapy can be a place to make sense of who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going. I specialize in working with people navigating big life transitions, processing trauma, or seeking a deeper sense of meaning and purpose. I often work with clients who have religious or spiritual backgrounds, as well as those who identify as secular, questioning, or non-religious. My clients come from many walks of life: young adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, professionals in high-pressure careers, people in polyamorous or open/ENM relationships, members of kink communities, and those exploring or disentangling from faith traditions. In our work, I bring advanced training in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, along with practical cognitive and behavioral tools to help with depression and anxiety. I take a whole-person approach, attuned to the ways your past and present experiences shape you while helping you build toward the life you want.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach client concerns from a depth-oriented perspective while also utilizing cognitive and behavioral techniques for managing symptoms of depression and anxiety. I like to work with my clients to attend to the past, present, and the future and the way that they interact.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that from the earliest moments of our lives, we are searching for and in need of relationship and connection. I believe that all people are in a state of Becoming - who we are, how we understand ourselves, others, and the world around us is changing all the time. I operate from a broadly existential place, attuning to your emotional needs in the present while also exploring your past for traces of relational ruptures and lasting impacts. Attending to both the here-and-now & the past will permit us to more confidently discern a more satisfying and empowering future.
