Getting to know Andy Garcia

With many challenges in today’s times, it can be difficult to maintain a positive outlook on life. These challenges can result from trauma, grieving the loss of a loved one, divorce, family conflict, or identity issues. Other stressors may include school performance, loss of employment, suffering from an illness or injury, impacts from COVID-19, or immigration and deportation concerns, all of which can make going through your day-to-day seem like an impossible task. The good news is that there is help. If this sounds familiar, let’s work together to help you take back control of your life. Using therapy tailored to your needs, I will help improve your quality of life. If you are facing deportation, I can also assist with completing a comprehensive evaluation to support your application for obtaining legal status in the U.S. Taking the first step to seeking help from a therapist is a sign of resiliency and courage—qualities that many of us possess but do not always see. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from City University of New York, Lehman College, which equips me to provide compassionate and effective support on your journey toward healing and empowerment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Growing up Latino in New York City has influenced and shaped me to be a therapist who is culturally-sensitive to individuals/families of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, and races. Growing up around many different backgrounds has also helped shape my view that everyone, despite our differences and struggles, has so much to offer.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Throughout therapy, clients can expect to work with a clinician with great interpersonal skills who is culturally-sensitive and will work collaboratively to help achieve the best results in treatment. After an initial evaluation I will provide a diagnosis and over the next 2-3 sessions will begin formulating a treatment plan based on goals set by the client. These personal treatment goals will help guide the course of therapy.

He was 15 minutes late, which wasn't great. But it was my first therapy session, and he quit on me after we agreed to a second appt the following week when I knew what my schedule was. Receiving an email that he does not want to continue is incredibly offensive. Also made judgemental looks a few times when I was opening up. What a guy.

Andy helped my fiancé and I through a tricky time when we first got engaged and we now feel fully equipped to handle more challenges that will inevitably come our way. He had a wonderful demeanor with us and we really appreciated the way he reminded us to be proud of each other and ourselves for all we’ve accomplished together. I love someone who reminds you to celebrate yourselves! My fiancé was also hesitant about therapy at first and he quickly grew to appreciate its value and Andy’s perspective. I have a feeling this experience with Andy will set us up to face challenges in a new and healthy way moving forward…and we will have tons of challenges but they don’t seem so scary anymore because we are much more grounded in our communication now.
Andy has been extremely helpful in my own personal growth and healing journey. From the beginning he was warm, compassionate and attentive. He created a safe and non judgmental space for me to explore my thoughts and feelings. He asks insightful questions to help me understand my own behavior patterns. Overall, I would highly recommend Andy to anyone seeking a caring knowledgable therapist who is dedicated to helping clients achieve personal growth.
very patient very kind excellent bedside manner. definitely has helped me come from being a hot head who doesn't know how to explain his emotions to someone who is much better at vocalizing my feelings as well as approaching things with an open and patient mind. he completely affords all the time necessary to get your thoughts out and does not try and push for things that are very uncomfortable leaves everything at your pace.

Highly recommend for his attentiveness and safe space way. Makes you feel comfortable to express yourself without fear of judgement. After a few sessions we had peeled layers that had been hiding.
