About Me Welcome to Positive Mind Counseling! I am glad you found me! My name is Angela Austin, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing online therapeutic services to clients residing in the state of California. I hold a Master’s in Psychology from California Southern University and a Master’s in Education from Azusa Pacific University. My Personal Bio I am a mother of twin girls, an energetic boy, and a 180-pound Saint Bernard. I have been married for over 16 years and enjoy traveling and relaxing at the winery with friends. My professional background includes forensic mental health, working with inmates in the county detention center, and supporting both special education and general education students in the public school system. I have also worked in private practice, focusing on clients suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, PTSD, and high-pressure work environments. I am a strong supporter of law enforcement officers, active duty military, and our veterans. I offer Faith-Based Christian Counseling upon request. Who I Work With I am most effective with clients suffering from depression because of my optimism and innate positivity. I always see a solution in every problem. My experience working in the detention facility allowed me to support clients facing severe charges and long-term sentences. Many times, they were unable to see a light of hope within the dark walls they lived between. This made my work difficult, but I learned how impactful a smile and positivity can be with this population. I treated them as people, no matter their crime, and instilled hope by simply listening and providing a safe place to express themselves during their darkest times.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a great listener and will work collaboratively with you during our sessions. I enjoy learning about my clients and work to provide a comfortable space for sharing difficult topics. I strive to offer the most authentic experience in hopes that my clients will grow and become the best version of themselves in this process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is typically an intake or assessment session where I learn a lot about you and your symptoms, why you decided to begin therapy and some housekeeping items (scheduling, policies, etc). After the first session we discuss goals for therapy and begin working. My goals initially are to learn as much as I can about you and investigate patterns that might be contributing to your symptoms. I review family patterns, coping mechanisms and daily routines.
