As an OCD therapist, I encourage my members to incorporate self-compassion throughout treatment. You can challenge OCD and still be kind to yourself. I will ask you to do uncomfortable things, but nothing more than you can handle. This will ultimately help you grow and recover. Even though exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy will be hard at times, continuing to engage in compulsions will always make life more difficult. Give yourself a lot of credit for wanting to make necessary changes. I also have experience treating anxiety and depression. My personal connection to mental health I struggle with anxiety. It made me feel lost, like I couldn't get out of my own way, and that's when I started seeing a therapist myself. She helped me realize that comparing myself wasn't helpful. When I applied patience and self-compassion, things started feeling less overwhelming. I've also been in therapy for grief and loss. It's helped me learn that we're able to get through pain and go on with our lives. My message to you if you're struggling right now OCD wants you to be stuck feeling scared or confused. The best way you can challenge that is by doing something differently. Because whatever has been going on, it's causing you enough pain that you're thinking about taking this step. You've got to try to challenge this so you can start feeling better. And you can start feeling better. What my Members say helps them feel comfortable with me I always take time to listen, and when I ask my Members about specific things they've brought up before, they feel appreciated because I remember what they said. And it doesn't always have to do with OCD. Sometimes it's about other things happening in their lives. I'm not just here to teach them ERP. Of course, that's happening, but I always take time to catch up and see what else is going on.
