“I was quite nervous but eager to get a lot off my chest. I walked away feeling understood but also like I would be held accountable for taking my progress into my own hands. Which is exactly what I wanted from Anita. I want to grow, not just complain. I am excited for any sessions to follow my first.”

Getting to know Anita Y Smith

Greetings, I'm Anita Smith! If this is your first time seeking help, I want to commend you for your courage. If you have had therapy before, I hope I say something that connects with you. I'm curious to know what brought you here and what you would like to get out of therapy. I specialize in helping individuals cope with different kinds of losses: 1) Primary losses – the death of a loved one, friend, or pet; break-up, separation, divorce; loss of job or money; being the victim of a crime; and losses due to COVID-19. 2) Secondary losses – moving, illness, changes, and success. 3) Limbo losses – COVID-19, waiting for the outcome of a test result, a lawsuit, separation, or not knowing the outcome. 4) Complicated losses – primary, secondary, and limbo losses occurring at the same time. Reactions to loss can include feelings of anxiety, depression, helplessness, fear, emptiness, despair, pessimism, irritability, anger, guilt, restlessness, loss of concentration, hope, motivation, energy, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, and a tendency to be more fatigued and error-prone. Are you experiencing any of these feelings? I also work with individuals who desire prayer before our sessions. I hold a Master’s in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas with over 25 years of experience, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) for more than 35 years, and a Board Certified Coach (BCC) for 10 years.

Anita is an absolutely wonderful therapist. She actively listens, and makes sure she hears you. Truly one of the most important parts about being a patient in this system to me is feeling heard, and I always leave our sessions feeling better than I started. She is conversational like a friend, but a true honest and right professional.
