Hi there, I'm Ann! I am Ann Doherty, a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's in Social Work from Boston University. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. My focus is on the effects of both past and current family addictions and/or mental illness on present functioning. My approach I am eclectic in my approach to treatment. Based on a person's way of being and thinking, I use methods from cognitive, behavioral, motivational, humanistic, and creative arts therapies to facilitate awareness and change. My focus I specialize in working with those who come from situations where addictions and/or mental illness are or have been present. I also support individuals questioning their relationship with addiction to various substances and activities. This includes those who have stopped active addiction for any length of time and want to address new issues that have surfaced in their recovery. My communication style My intention is to help you discover, uncover, and retrieve parts of yourself-those parts that enable us to experience greater happiness, freedom, confidence, intimacy, or safety. These parts of self were originally forbidden, abandoned, or never even allowed to be born. Our work together is to identify and remove whatever barriers block growth and change. My journey to mental healthcare I became a therapist because I grew up in a multi-problem family and learned early on that although I didn't have the answers for my family, I could eventually learn to do better than the elite ?professionals? seemed to be doing to help us. I have always valued work in which I am directly helping others. During my formal education to ?help others,? I received the most heartening help for myself. We teach best what we most need to learn. I am a lifelong student and teacher.
