Ignite Counseling and Equine Psychotherapy™ was founded seven years ago with the intention of filling a need for clinically focused therapy that includes the equine component. Ignite focuses on empirically based practices that incorporate horses in all aspects of mental health counseling and therapy. We succeed where other types of counseling in a typical office setting may have failed clients. Ignite programs were created to “think outside of the box.” Making a connection to nature adds an extra element that is so beneficial, contributing greatly to the success of our program. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix, which supports my commitment to providing evidence-based, innovative therapeutic approaches.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our focus as mental health professionals is on treating people with mental health diagnoses including PTSD, complex trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and personality disorders. We welcome children, teens, individuals, families, groups, and couples Equine-Assisted EMDR TM is effective in helping clients who suffer from complex and single incident trauma, PTSD, and a wide range of other mental health challenges. This modality incorporates the 8 phases of EMDR while interacting with the horses. The dual attention of the horses provides the opportunity for the client to start to feel safe and grounded. The understanding of dissociation and the defensive actions that the human central nervous system plays to keep it safe is seen and understood by the horses. This attunement and understanding from the horse provide for the client new adaptive information or experiential “aha moments” that the clients can apply to other areas of their lives. It also offers team building and corporate event experiences for businesses, which include equine activities and and unique experiences tailored to each event.
