I believe that which troubles us is found not only in our relationships with others, but our relationship with self. I know the experience of wanting to change but not knowing how. I also know the strength of partnership and wisdom on the journey to wellness. I believe an honest, direct and accepting counseling style creates a safe environment for growth. Change happens with support, knowledge, guidance and trust. Being human can be hard work! Life brings us challenges and no matter what the difficulty, we should not have to do it alone. As a counselor and therapist with over 25 years of experience, I can guide you in your journey toward the change you need and the results you want.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Good therapy begins with a safe, warm and trusting relationship. I find most clients begin making progress within the first few sessions. The process of being understood, is often healing in and of itself. Therefore, I prefer to take an interactive role with my clients. I listen with intention and provide feedback designed to help you achieve your goal. The therapy experience should be non-judgmental, personable, professional, educational, validating and skill enhancing. Therapy isn’t always easy, however, growth feels good and you are not alone in your journey. I look forward to meeting you! During our first session we will discuss why you are seeking help and how you envision your goal. I will take a detailed history to gain a greater understanding of you and the experiences that influence who you are and how you think. Thereafter, we develop a treatment plan for what we will work on and how we will go about it. From there, we begin our work as a team and I am your guide. Warmly, Anne

What is your typical process for working with clients?

To begin, I take a detailed history of you and your life experiences. I always tell my new clients, “Tell me why you’re here and I will ask from there.” Thereafter, we decide what we will work on and what strategies we will use (EMDR, trauma work, narrative therapy, communication skills, boundary work, etc.). We will also discuss session frequency, as it relates to you and your needs. As you get closer to accomplishing your goals we will meet less often. I often state humorously and with sincerity, “The goal of therapy is to not need therapy.” My goal with clients is to resolve the issues underlying unhelpful patterns, so that change is stable and growth is ongoing.
