I've been around long enough to recognize this truth: life is unfair, bad things happen to good people, justice is not always served, and pain and suffering impact us all. However, to quote Camus, "In the depths of winter I finally learned that within me lay an invincible summer". Let's find a way back to your invincible summer. My approach While I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you identify and reshape unhelpful thoughts, I blend that with existential and narrative exploration. We will explore your values, strengths, and what gives your life meaning and purpose. Learning to take responsibility for your choices and actions opens the door to a more authentic life. My focus Struggling with anxiety or depression? Triggered by the "interesting times" we are living in? I hold space for clients' fear, rage, and loss fostered by injustice, trauma, or simply life's unfair challenges. I work with adults of all ages to reframe these feelings and find hope, meaning, and connection. My communication style I foster a therapeutic environment that is empathetic, open, accepting, and judgment-free. I will listen and reflect on what I hear, ask clarifying questions, and focus on understanding and validating your experience. We will explore the strengths and obstacles you bring as we work towards your goals. My journey to mental healthcare I have over 30 years as a mental health provider. As a child of the '60s and '70s, I was shaped by the civil rights and women's movements. The rhetoric of the AIDs epidemic regarding "lifestyle choice" added another dimension to my desire to support those who struggled both emotionally and socially within our culture. My goals for you Therapy is a partnership, and from our first session, we will set goals that matter to you. Goals are not static, and as you gain new insights, we’ll adapt your plan to stay meaningful and supportive as you move toward where you want to be.”
