Getting to know Anthony Brooks

As a 3rd generation social services worker, I often joke that I was born into this field. I cannot imagine myself in any other profession. This is all I have ever wanted to do. With that being said, I was also born into a society that often refuses to accept the necessity of therapy, especially for men and people of color. Part of my aim as a clinician is to dispel some of the bias toward seeking help for mental health issues. If you had an injured limb, you would seek out help. If you had contracted a virus, you would seek out help. Why should seeking help for emotional and mental illness be any different? It should not! I have been in the field of mental health for almost 20 years. In that time, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. I have experience in intensive outpatient, high acuity inpatient, the Department of Corrections, and with DCFS. This blend of experiences has helped me form an approach that benefits everyone regardless of their situation. I hold a Master's in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University, which has further equipped me to support my clients effectively. I live my life by a quote from the Dalai Lama: ?With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can change the world.? This means that often people already possess the ability to change their life for the better; sometimes they just need someone to help them discover that ability. That's where I come in.
