April Smith, LMHC

Psychotherapist
FL
My goal is to develop a therapeutic partnership and work with you so you may achieve greater levels of self-awareness, self-sufficiency, self-control, and self-esteem. Emphasis is placed on education, understanding, skill development, and practice in problem solving, coping skills, interpersonal communication, emotional regulation, behavior management, and cognitive restructuring to help you successfully navigate difficult life situations and achieve personal growth and progress. I utilize an eclectic approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, reality therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, psychoeducation, and rational emotive behavior therapy. I specialize in treating OCD, anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship problems, and sexuality issues. I believe that a good fit between the client and therapist is essential. I take an honest and authentic approach that adds humor and a bit of fun to the therapeutic process. I have been a licensed mental health counselor for almost ten years, with experience in community mental health, substance abuse treatment, private practice, and court-mandated programs. I enjoy working with individuals and couples. I am a qualified supervisor and am licensed in Florida, New York, and Maine. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island.
