Being a fourth-generation Ski Patroller, I was born into an adventurous family. Our vacations involved biking, climbing, and trekking, often under extreme weather conditions. By the age of 15, my experiences with multiple injuries, surgeries, and concussions had given me a good understanding of trauma. However, the greatest challenge in my life came from contracting chronic Lyme disease. After earning my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Argosy University Denver, I joined the Peace Corps and began experiencing peculiar symptoms: tingling in my forearms, severe pain in my back and stomach, constipation, and unexplainable mental symptoms. I consulted numerous doctors upon returning home but didn’t find any relief. Due to my deteriorating health, I lost touch with my adventurous roots and the purpose of my life. Over the next 12 years, I grappled with my illness, trauma, and unresolved emotions obstructing my recovery. It’s been a long battle, but I managed to regain my zest for life and feel a part of the world again through a combination of therapies, supplements, and medications. This ordeal has instilled in me a sense of loyalty toward people struggling with their health and happiness. My belief: therapy is a collaborative journey—one that can help people discover purpose and meaning even amidst the worst scenarios. My diverse roles as a ski patroller, EMT, martial artist, and gestalt/contemplative-based therapist have ingrained in me a unique perspective. I combine approaches from Western medicine with psychological practices and somatic bodywork, which proves helpful for those dealing with acute trauma, chronic illness, and life’s various challenges. Moreover, my health journey has taught me that with the right kind of therapeutic support, one can approach their illness and trauma in entirely new, enriching ways.
