Ashley Alicea, MS

Psychotherapist
NY
*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* I work with people who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, or stuck in life transitions. In our sessions, I bring warmth, patience, and honesty-I’ll hold space for what feels heavy while encouraging new approaches and supporting you in breaking old patterns. I also emphasize the power of sleep, nutrition, and movement to create lasting change. I strive to create a warm, flexible space where you feel comfortable bringing in whatever is most important to you. While I may help guide our work, I’m always open to shifting focus so your present feelings are heard and supported. My goal is for you to feel both safe and empowered in this process. And occasionally, my dogs Lulu and Pablo may make a guest appearance, reminding us that comfort and connection matter here too. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and you may not be ready to share every detail right away-and that’s okay. Together, we’ll build a meaningful relationship and take steps toward healing, growth, and self-acceptance. By being here, you’ve already taken the first step forward. Ashley Alicea holds a Master’s in Counseling from Hunter College. Ashley is a Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit (MHC-LP #18-P136955-01) in New York at Cerebral. Supervised by Tyshauna White, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #093800).

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with children, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and life transitions. I bring compassion and cultural awareness into the therapy space, with a special understanding of first-generation and multicultural experiences. My approach blends psychodynamic insight with CBT strategies, helping clients understand the roots of their struggles while building practical tools for lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a first-generation Latina, I understand the challenges of navigating multiple cultures, languages, and expectations. With ten years of teaching experience before entering this field, I know firsthand what it feels like to be anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck. In our sessions, we’ll explore both past and present to uncover patterns, build insight, and create meaningful change. My style is warm and supportive, while also gently challenging you when you’re ready, so you feel safe, seen, and supported—yet still held accountable to the growth and life you want to create.
