Getting to know Ashley Katz
When did you last feel like yourself? For a lot of people, something shifts - a new baby, a relationship change, a chapter that ends before you were ready - and suddenly the person you knew so well feels a little out of reach. Maybe intimacy is harder than it used to be. Maybe you're carrying joy and grief at the same time and not sure how to hold both.
That in-between space, the both/and of life's transitions, is exactly where I work. I'm a licensed social worker and aspiring sex therapist supporting individuals navigating life transitions, identity shifts, postpartum changes, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and questions about intimacy and sexuality.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I give big sister energy. I'm warm, direct, and genuinely hard to shock. If you've been waiting for a therapist you can talk to about sex, desire, body image, or anything that felt like too much for polite conversation - I'm your person. I take the full picture of who you are seriously and I won't flinch.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Everyone comes in with a different story, so we'll figure out together what actually helps - at your pace, on your terms.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Our first session is a real conversation, not an interrogation. I'll bring some light structure to help us get oriented - your history, what's brought you in, what you're hoping for - but I follow your lead. I want to understand not just what's happening, but how it feels and what it means to you. From there we'll collaboratively figure out what we're working toward and how to get there.
