Psychotherapist
1345 Monroe Ave NW, Ste 269, Grand Rapids, MI
I am a compassionate, trauma-informed therapist who works with adults navigating substance use, recovery, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and court- or system-related stressors. My experience in residential recovery, corrections, and clinical care coordination has helped me understand how trauma, addiction, relationships, environment, and mental health often intersect. My approach is direct, supportive, and client-centered. I believe therapy should meet people where they are while also helping them build practical tools for change. My clinical style is grounded in motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, emotional regulation skills, and trauma-informed care. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals in recovery and those who may feel misunderstood, judged, or overlooked by traditional systems. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when you are carrying shame, grief, trauma, legal stress, or uncertainty about change. I work to create a space where you can speak honestly, feel respected, and begin identifying realistic next steps. My goal is to help you better understand your patterns, strengthen coping skills, rebuild self-trust, and move toward a healthier and more stable life. I also have experience facilitating groups and enjoy helping clients learn skills in a supportive, structured environment. I am particularly interested in recovery-focused work, women’s wellness, trauma recovery, relapse prevention, and helping clients develop safety, stability, and confidence in daily life. At JumpStart 2 Recovery, I welcome clients who are ready for support, whether you are just beginning therapy, returning to care, or working to maintain progress in recovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that I show up as a real person in the therapy room. My style is warm, direct, honest, and supportive. I believe therapy works best when you feel respected, understood, and also gently challenged to look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I meet clients where they are, especially when they are carrying shame, trauma, substance use concerns, legal stress, or uncertainty about change. You do not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin with where you are today and build from there. My work is practical and collaborative. Together, we will focus on understanding your story, identifying what is no longer working, building healthier coping skills, and creating realistic steps toward stability, recovery, and growth. I value honesty, accountability, and compassion, and I work to create a space where you can feel safe enough to be open without fear of judgment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process starts with getting to know you as a whole person, not just the problem that brought you to therapy. In the beginning, we will talk about what has been going on, what you have already tried, what feels most urgent, and what you want life to look like moving forward. From there, we will identify patterns, stressors, strengths, and goals. I like to work collaboratively, so we will create a plan together that feels realistic and useful. Depending on your needs, our work may include processing trauma, building coping skills, strengthening emotional regulation, exploring substance use or recovery goals, improving relationships, and developing more stability in daily life. I use a supportive but direct approach. I will meet you where you are, while also helping you stay accountable to the changes you want to make. Therapy with me is not about judgment or shame. It is about honesty, healing, skill-building, and taking the next right step at a pace that makes sense for you.
