“I have been seeing Ashley for several years now. Her practice is impeccable. She’s an empathetic and kind therapist who always provides a solution to a problem - be it a challenged perspective or use of tools like EMDR. Ashley’s practice goes above and beyond. If you have a complex or novel issue, she will research it and come back with more insight. It was totally shocking in the best way possible! She goes to great lengths to show that she listens and genuinely cares about her patients. Her approach allows patients to break through repetitive or habitual thinking practices while still embracing the session with wholistic remedies. There is rarely - if ever - a time you go to a session and think “wow, I got nothing here.” There’s always a lesson, always a takeaway. And above all else, Ashley will give you room for emotion. You have space to grieve, to laugh, and to heal - and she follows with you. Here, you’re in very capable and good hands. Cannot recommend it enough!”

Getting to know Ashley McAuliffe

Hi – I'm Ashley, welcome! I recognize that your being here means you're thinking of taking the big step of looking for help-and I'm so proud of you for contemplating that scary leap of faith toward your emotional healing. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida, and New Light Counseling, LLC is my private practice where I provide mental health counseling and therapy. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and continued on to earn my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University, Orlando Campus. I began seeing clients in 2018 and have been strengthening my skills and obtaining tools to help clients ever since. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist and have been trained in EMDR and ERP. My clients describe me as warm and empathetic, and I strive to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone. I use a non-judgmental approach that I hope encourages honesty and vulnerability even in difficult circumstances. Each of my clients is treated uniquely, with a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. My approach is gentle and honest-I've been told I'm very real and straightforward. I utilize a narrative, trauma-informed approach combined with mindfulness techniques. I believe creativity and flexibility as a therapist create a great space to do the tough work involved in therapy. I have expertise in trauma work, anxiety, depression, life changes, or otherwise a general sense of suffering, but I am not limited to these areas of work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You should know that I show up as a real person in the room with you. I’m warm, honest, and grounded, and I aim to create a space where you feel safe to be fully yourself — no matter what you’re going through. I take a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental approach and will always meet you with empathy and curiosity, not judgement. Therapy with me is collaborative and tailored to your needs. I’ll gently challenge you when needed, but I’ll never push you before you're ready. I believe in the healing power of feeling seen and heard, and I’m here to help you connect the dots, build coping skills, and move toward the life you want — at your pace.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is grounded in building a strong, trusting relationship where you feel safe and supported. In our first few sessions, I’ll take time to really get to know you — your story, your strengths, and the challenges bringing you to therapy. Together, we’ll clarify your goals and create a treatment plan that fits your unique needs and pace. I use a trauma-informed, integrative approach, often blending narrative therapy, mindfulness, and evidence-based techniques like EMDR or ERP when appropriate. I check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to feel helpful and aligned with where you are emotionally. My goal is to create a space where you can show up fully, process deeply, and feel empowered in your healing.
