*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* Together, we will co-create a collaborative and warm space where we can explore issues and stressors related to relationships, work, identity, trauma, and oppression. Committing to your mental health can feel overwhelming, however therapy can help you discover your core values and how they relate to your personal history. I am committed to supporting my clients through overwhelming emotions, difficult past experiences, and inconsistent perceptions of one’s own identity. My work is focused on promoting the mental health and well-being of adults and couples. My primary clinical focus involves working with clients who have experienced complex trauma and meet criteria for a personality disorder. However, my clinical aptitude and practice has afforded me with the capacity to work with a wide range of clients. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy and compassion-focused therapy, which helps my clients connect the present to the past to gain a newfound sense of awareness and wholeness. While I work to help clients build insight, I also blend strategies and skills that are designed case by case to give my client’s immediate relief. Life can feel overwhelming and chaotic, but during our time together I strive to slow things down by noticing what is coming up for you so we can begin to identify different mental states and patterns of relating. Through introspection, connection, and skill-building, my clients gain a sense of awareness, purpose, and clarity which allows them to walk through life with more self-compassion and self-knowledge. If you get the sense that you aren’t sure what the problem is, but that there must be more to life, therapy can help you uncover and resolve what is happening. It takes a lot of courage to prioritize yourself and commit to change. Together we can care for the parts of you that are struggling, while emphasizing what helps you feel stronger and more whole.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy working with clients who want to reflect on relationship patterns starting from early development to present day that have led to a less confident core sense of self. They often feel their emotions are overwhelming or get in the way of relationships. Relationships really matter to my clients, but they find they are extremely challenging to navigate. My clients often hold identities of unworthiness, expectations of failure, demands for perfect performance, and ongoing acute shame.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I identify as a relational clinician who helps clients develop an emotional understanding of themselves within the whole context of their lives. Clients learn to tolerate, track and make use of a broad range of affects, emotions, and feelings by drawing from modalities such as psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I search for what is distinctive and precious within every individual’s lived experience to help my clients feel empowered and whole by unearthing their own unique histories, perspectives, and capabilities. I am committed to creating a space where clients explore both devastating loss and joyful success by offering support, insight, empathy, and connectedness. My personal therapy experience has taught me healing means learning how to tolerate and accept the painful aspects along with the joyful and spectacular moments of life. Ashley Temple received her Master of Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work with a concentration in psychodynamic and trauma informed therapy. Ashley Temple is a Licensed Master Social Worker, License #LMSW 122031 (NY), at Cerebral. Supervised by Hebah Khalifa, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW 084028.
