“Ashley is amazing! She was able to take me in quickly when I really needed support. From the very first session, I felt a genuine connection. She’s incredibly kind, sweet, and professional—someone who truly makes you feel heard and understood. I felt safe opening up to her, and her calming presence made it easy to talk about things I’ve struggled to express before. I can’t recommend her enough!”

Getting to know Ashley Villar

I have experience working with all age groups and have recently developed my skills in serving veterans at the local VA in San Antonio, Texas. I am very familiar with trauma experienced throughout the lifespan, including generational trauma, first responders, individuals with serious mental illness, interpersonal violence, and those who have been incarcerated. I also work with severe depression, anxiety, familial discord, parent/child conflict, blended families, separation/divorce, and self-esteem issues. My background includes various fields of mental health, such as inpatient care as a QMHP in the Hill Country, serving as a Career Counselor for the city of San Antonio, working with trafficked youth and high-risk populations. For the past 2.5 years, I have provided treatment to the veteran population both inpatient and outpatient at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Seeking a therapist is always a very nerve-wrecking thing to do, especially when you're feeling overwhelmed, unsure, and afraid of what the next step is. I will be more than happy to help with the rest and help with navigating this difficult time. I listen without judgement. I hope to make this a safe space for you to be yourself and for you to explore.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typically our first contact will be a free 15 min consultation where we discuss current issues that are arising for you. Next we'll get your billing done, paperwork signed, and appt. set. This takes anywhere from 1-2 days. After that you tell me how often you'd like to be seen. Our first session will be a history taking, a diagnostic impression can be discussed, and the type of therapy we'll be pursuing. This can include CBT, EMDR, trauma-focused, individual and/or groups.
