Hi everyone! I am a PCIT therapist who works to help improve behaviors and "big feelings" in children ages 2-7 years old. A lot of families have questions about Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and how it can help them. Here is some information about this treatment approach: Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based, highly effective treatment for children ages 2-7 years old. PCIT changes a child's behavior by teaching you new approaches for responding to your child's actions and coaching you in the moment to help you manage behaviors effectively! Over 40 years of clinical research supports what PCIT therapists already know: children improve quickly, these gains are maintained over time, and these improvements also happen in school settings and with siblings. Who can benefit from PCIT? PCIT is helpful to families struggling with a range of concerns including: - Children with oppositional behaviors - Children who can't control their emotions - Children diagnosed with attention problems - Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder - Children getting in trouble at school/daycare - Children going through changes in the family (for example, a new sibling) - Children who have experienced traumatic events - Children with low self-esteem - Children who are anxious - Children who are struggling socially I have extensive experience and training helping parents and caregivers use PCIT to improve their relationships with their children. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. If you're struggling with your toddler, I can help!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I discovered my passion for PCIT while working as a licensed clinician in the Child Study Center at the University of Arkansas Medical for Medical Sciences. I received my initial PCIT training from Dr. John-Paul Abner (PCIT Therapist and Global Trainer), Dr. Joy Pemberton (PCIT Therapist and Regional Trainer), and PCIT Therapists and Level 1 trainers, Dr. Karin Vanderzee and Dr. Glenn Mesmann. I was so moved by the positive impact that I witnessed through working with families in PCIT that I pursued and became certified as a PCIT Therapist through PCIT International in early 2021. Since then, I have been determined to specialize in this life-changing, evidence-based treatment modality and is thrilled to be joining PCIT Experts in order to do so. Prior to joining PCIT Experts, I implemented PCIT with clients across multiple settings and states. I began providing PCIT via telehealth or I-PCIT (Internet-Based Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) in March 2020 and have transitioned to offering I-PCIT exclusively---due to the positive impact PCIT has had on the 100+ families that I have worked with. I can provide PCIT in both Arkansas and Florida and I also accept Lyra Health benefits.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is to use PCIT to help YOU and your family meet your needs! During our initial session, I will meet with parents/caregivers alone so that I learn all about your child and your family and make sure that PCIT is going to be helpful. I will let you know if PCIT treatment is the best plan and we'll discuss how we can adapt it just for you. After the initial session, I will observe you and your child playing together so that I can see how they respond in different situations and understand your dynamic. After that, I will do a teaching session so that I can teach you the skills for our first part of treatment, the Child-Directed Interaction. Most of our sessions will include a coaching component. Coaching is what what makes PCIT work! Basically, I will watch you and your child interact through our online platform and COACH you through a bluetooth device/airpod so that I can help you use your skills in the moment! I can help you respond effectively to tantrums, validate your child's feelings, and help your child learn to follow directions. This is a virtual treatment that happens in your own home so that I can see what things are ACTUALLY like in your regular setting and understand your family's needs. Every week, I'll ask you to complete a behavioral measure to make sure that we're on the right track and treatment is working! Treatment ends when you are able to implement play therapy skills, discipline skills, feel confident, and your child is no longer acting out. This usually takes 3-4 months, depending upon your child and how much you practice and implement what we work on together.
