Audrey Diaz, LCSW

Psychotherapist
TX
I have been working in the mental health field for about 6 years. I recently moved to Texas from Mississippi, where I lived for about 4 years. Although I have lived in other parts of the US, I am glad to be back in my home state. My therapeutic approach includes CBT, DBT, and TF-CBT. I have found these methods work well with children and youth and are the areas in which I am most skilled. However, I recognize that these approaches are not “one size fits all.” For the past 2 years, I have worked with children and youth ages 10-18 in the school setting. Most referrals came from schools regarding behavioral concerns such as disruptive behavior in class, frequent counseling visits, poor grades, and attendance issues. Many clients I worked with had previous diagnoses of ADHD, depression, MDD, anxiety, and non-suicidal behavior. I like to think my communication style is assertive. Especially when working with families, I have learned that being assertive helps build rapport, establish boundaries, and set clear expectations. My journey to mental healthcare began while completing my bachelor’s degree in social work at a nonprofit agency working with at-risk youth in California. I realized that to better assist children and youth in addressing family dynamics and socially learned behaviors, I needed to continue my education. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from UMass Global and am now working toward becoming an LCSW. When setting goals with clients, I encourage them to take full control because they are the experts in their own lives. I start by explaining why we set goals, then how to identify them, and finally how to convert those goals into realistic and measurable steps. In our first session, you can expect to share your journey with therapy and discuss your expectations for me as your therapist.
